Day 4 Continued

Since my last post (this morning) I decided to blow off my homework (the mail gods didn't bless me and therefore I'm still missing two of my textbooks).  So I went hiking on what was described as a 1 hour, moderate, 1.5 mile, hike up Flattop Mountain with a total climb of 1,350 feet.  Sounds like a challenge but not beyond my skills.

Well, about 20 minutes into the hike here was the view.
Breathtaking--figuratively and literally.  The altitude made me huff and puff like a chain-smoker.  So I continue hiking, occasionally taking breaks.  (There are lots of folks out and about half of them brought their dog.Awesome!)  One third of the way up it starts to snow, lightly, but it was snowing.  However, I refused to give up.

Further up, there was a nice bench that was a wonderful place to sit and enjoy the view.
FINALLY!!  I conquered Flattop Mountain & made it to the top - over 1 hour after I started.  (The whole trail, beginning to end, was listed as being a 1 hour hike - BALONEY!)
The last 5 minutes of the climb were pretty dicey.  The descent looked like this -- scary but if you scooch a bit on your hiney, then it's not so bad.

Here is the best sight ever!  My sexy rental car.  Admit it, you're jealous of my Nissan Versa.
After my 2+ hour hike I tried to warm up with a good book and Vante.  Then I was off to the Alaska Aces game!  They played the Utah Grizzlies; here are the highlights:
They hit each other a lot!
Occasionally they would play the Lone Ranger theme song and this guy would run back and forth on a hockey stick with a polar bear on the front.  It was weird but pretty funny too.
Zamboni's have gotten fancy thanks to a little creative marketing!

Sometimes I feel like my job as a photographer/reporter/PA is dangerous.  I have to wear hearing protection, smell jet fuel, deal with reporters/photographers but it ain't nothing compared to what these two guys have to deal with: aggressive, stinky hockey players with sticks.  It's no wonder that the referee and the professional photographer are both wearing helmets!
It was a great day!  A long day & now Vante and I are hitting the hay.  Tomorrow homework awaits us!
